iPhone & iPod touch tips

No need to wait until you can get online to enter your gift card into iTunes–you can buy music and apps and redeem gift cards (or promo codes) right from your iPhone. It’s easy to do, but not obvious, here’s how:

1.  Have your code handy. If was emailed to you, just copy it from your email on your phone

2. Select the `App Store’ icon
 

3. Select the` Featured Apps’ icon (bottom left) (I don’t  know why this is the way in to the store, but there ya go)

4. Scroll to the bottom and select the `Redeem’ icon

5. Enter your code (or paste from email)

6. Select `Redeem’ (top right)

The gift card amount will be credited to your iTunes account, just as if you had done it from a computer.

If it’s a promo code, the app will automatically start downloading in the background.

Two things to note about promo codes:

1. On an iPhone, if the app is greater than 20MB then the phone will wait until you are connected to Wi-Fi before it starts downloading
2. If the promo code is expired or has already been redeemed, nothing will happen; no app, no message, nada.  You’ll have to contact whoever gave you the code and beg for a new code.  Well, asking nicely might work, too.
